• Academia: WPA Spirituality Webinar: The World Psychiatric Association's Section on Religion, Spirituality and Psychiatry, in collaboration with the Indian Psychiatric Society's Spirituality Specialty Section, hosted an expert webinar on October 29, 2025. Keynote speaker Dr. Alexander Moreira-Almeida, MD, PhD—Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Research Center in Spirituality and Health (NUPES) at Federal University of Juiz de Fora, Brazil, and 2025 Oskar Pfister Award recipient from the American Psychiatric Association—presented on "Scientific exploration of the nature of spiritual experiences: a key road to advance the understanding of the mind and its relationship to the brain." This webinar brought together leading psychiatric professionals to explore the intersection of spirituality and mental health research, highlighting the growing recognition of spiritual experiences within mainstream psychiatric discourse.
• Spiritist Group Milestones in Miami and the UK: Two significant Spiritist organizations are marking important milestones this month. CEFA Miami is celebrating 20 years of dedicated service to the Spiritist community, representing two decades of spiritual growth and education. Meanwhile, the Kardec Group of the UK is commemorating 10 years since beginning their activities. To celebrate, Kardec Group is hosting a workshop titled "Changing Our Lives with Spiritism" on November 2nd in Bicester, Oxfordshire, . These anniversaries highlight the continued growth and impact of Spiritist organizations worldwide.

Selected Tidbits of #SpiritualHistory

• October 2, 1899: Emma Hardinge Britten, an English writer, orator and medium, passes away in Manchester, UK. She was an advocate for the early Modern Spiritualist Movement. Her work bridged spiritual philosophy, social advocacy, and religious organization, making her one of the most influential figures in the history of Spiritualism.
• October 3, 1804: Allan Kardec, the pen name of Hippolyte Léon Denizard Rivail, French educator, writer, and philosopher best known for his role in codifying and popularizing Spiritism, was born in Lyon, France.
• October 6, 1969: Divaldo Pereira Franco, well-known Brazilian medium, author, lecturer, and philanthropist who has dedicated his life to spiritual and charitable work, delivered his first lecture in the United States of America, in New York.
• October 9, 1851: Paul Gibier, French doctor and bacteriologist known for his research into contagious diseases and his interest in psychic phenomena and spiritualism, was born in Savigny, France. Gibier is thus recognized as a key figure who sought to apply scientific methods to the investigation of spiritualistic claims, contributing to both medical science and the study of psychic phenomena.
• October 9, 1861: In Barcelona, Spain, 300 Spiritist books and brochures about Spiritism sent by Allan Kardec to the bookseller Maurice Lachâtre were publicly burned in a square by the order of the Bishop of the city. This episode is known as the "Act of Faith of Barcelona."
• October 10, 1821: Rufina Noeggerath, Belgian writer, medium and spiritualist philosopher, was born in Brussels, Belgium. She played an important role in the development of spiritualism in France. She was considered one of the most important mediums of her time.
• October 18, 1859: Henri Bergson, French philosopher and former president of Psychical Research in London, is born in Paris, France. He is known for his work in philosophy and metaphysics, particularly his exploration of concepts like "élan vital" and the nature of time. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1927.
• October 19, 1909: Cesare Lombroso, Italian eugenicist, criminologist, phrenologist and physician, discarnates in Turin, Italy. He was also interested in spiritualism and mediumship, and he investigated and theorized about these phenomena. At first, Lombroso mocked spiritualist activities and dismissed them as superstition and fraud. However, in 1891, after carefully controlled experiments during séances with Palladino and other mediums, he reported witnessing phenomena he could not explain by science at the time—such as object movements, partial materializations, and direct voices. This led to a public admission of his belief in spiritualist facts, even while he remained somewhat reserved about theoretical
• October 25, 1886: Humberto de Campos, Brazilian writer and spiritist medium, was born in Miritiba (Maranhão), Brazil. He was a member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters, and after his passing, he came to write through Francisco Cândido Xavier, adopting the pseudonym of Brother X.
• October 26, 1924: Nilson de Souza Pereira, Brazilian Spiritist leader and philanthropist, was born in Salvador, Brazil. Alongside his friend Divaldo Franco, he founded the Spiritist Center "Caminho da Redenção" and the social charity organization "Mansão do Caminho."
